Heatwave in Odisha may make a comeback despite rains

Heatwave has become an integral part of the weather of Odisha. Summer has just seeped in the country and major parts of India are already under heatwave conditions. But the heatwave is expected to subside for a while as rain is likely to make a quick visit over the state.

At present, a trough is seen running from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to South coast of Odisha. This weather system has provided light rainfall over many areas of coastal Odisha and few areas of interior Odisha. Balasore received 2.6 mm of rainfall, Cuttack 2 mm, Gopalpur 17.5 mm, Titlagarh 9.4 mm.

This rainy spell is likely to continue over the region for next 2 days, even the interior parts of state will get light rainfall. Post this rainy spell, temperatures are likely to rise again and may venture in the heatwave territory.

In the last one week, six people have been reportedly died of heat stroke in the state. Temperatures are in staunch favor of heat and are in the 40-42 degree Celsius bracket. This rainfall has brought down the temperatures just enough to escape the heatwave tag but the weather is undoubtedly hot.

This marginal fall in temperature is overlooked by the moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal. This has led the humidity levels to raise a lot, making the weather unbearable even the maximums are not extremely high.

Local residents of the state are advised to stay indoors during afternoon. Staying hydrated all the time will provide some respite from the heatwave.
