Odisha is one pocket that has been witnessing severe heatwave conditions. Temperatures have been on the constant rise resulting in record-breaking maximums for several parts of the state. So much so that on April 24, Titlagarh in Odisha recorded a whopping 48.5 degrees which was the hottest ever for the month of April.
Usually, there are significant temperature variations between the coastal areas of Odisha and the interior pockets of the state. Temperatures are much higher in the interiors. Also, many areas in Interior Odisha also observe slight variations depending upon the wind pattern.
However, this year things have been different. Coastal areas have also been witnessing high maximums. Winds have been blowing from the land which has been resulting in a rise in temperatures. So much so that Bhubaneswar recorded the highest maximum of the season.
A few days ago, Odisha government had declared a holiday for schools until April 26. Now with the conditions only worsening, and temperatures on a constant rise, an early summer break for schools have been declared.
Now, summer vacations have been announced until June 16. The loss of studies will be compensated with extra classes on Saturdays after the school reopens in June. If any school has an exam going on, that can only take place during the early morning or late evening hours.
While there has been a fall in temperatures by one or two degrees across the state, but the heat situation persists. In fact, conditions will worsen even further as days pass by. No sign of relief is in sight, and more record-breaking temperatures may be observed in the coming days.
