Heatwave in Madhya Pradesh, schools to shut by 1 pm

April 8, 2016 4:31 PM |

SchoolIn wake of severe heat wave conditions in Central India, the education department of Madhya Pradesh State Government has ordered all schools to close every afternoon by 1 pm till the end of this month. These guidelines have been issued to protect children from scorching heat.

According to Skymet Weather, day temperatures peak between 2 pm and 4 pm, the time during which most of the schools close for the day. This would expose school children to the threat of heat stroke and dehydration.

For the past several days, day temperatures have been settling in the range of 40°C- 43°C. Places like Khajuraho, Bundelkhand, Hoshangabad, Umaria, Khandwa, Bhopal and Khargone are reeling under intense hot weather conditions.

Though temperatures have subsided during last 24 hours, but weather conditions are still very harsh and may take toll on the health of children.

Heatwave conditions are experienced when the day temperature surpass 40°C and settle five to six degrees above normal.
Khargone had recorded 43.5°C on April 3, followed by Khajuraho at 42.4°C and Damoh at 42°C.

Telangana has already reported 111 deaths due to ongoing heatwave like conditions.
