Heatwave in Delhi wreaks havoc with highest maximum of the seasonHeatwave in Delhi has made a comeback and that too with great pomp and show. While temperatures remained under check due to back to back Western Disturbances affecting the Western Himalayas, maximums have begun to soar as we move towards the end of the third week of May.

The situation has become grim in Delhi as the mercury refuses to come to a halt. Yesterday, Palam observatory in Delhi recorded a whopping 46.4 degree Celsius, which happens to be the highest of the season. In fact, last year, the highest maximum in May was recorded at 46.4 degrees.

Delhi has come under the grip of severe heatwave as the maximum is 6 degrees above the normal levels. The monthly average for Palam stands at 40.3 degrees. Also, during the last two months, about 300 people have been killed due to hot weather conditions.

The conditions are likely to remain the same during the next few days. The mercury may even soar further shattering more records. Orange alert has been issued and people have been advised to take necessary precautions against heatwave.
