Intense heat has been sweeping Delhi NCR for last few days. With this, heatwave conditions have been enduring over parts of Delhi and nearby districts of Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad.

For consecutive five days, day maximums have been crossing 45°C, leading to extremely harsh conditions for Delhiites.
On Sunday, Palam observatory recorded its maximum at 45.8°C, while the Safdarjung observatory recorded its day temperature at 44.2°C. Ayanagar and Ridge also recorded their maximum temperatures at 45.9°C and 44.9°C, respectively.
The main reason for these high temperatures is clear sky and hot winds blowing from northwest direction. These hot winds were travelling from Sindh, Baluchistan and Rajasthan area.
Now, the winds have changed their direction and are blowing from east. However, these easterly winds blowing Bay of Bengal are humid in nature and are comparatively cooler than the northwesterly winds.
Therefore, now we expect the humidity to increase over Delhi-NCR, leading to increase in discomfort level. We also expect isolated thunderstorm and dust storm activity to commence by tomorrow. One or two short spells of rain and thundershower may also occur over Delhi-NCR on May 30.
Therefore, the commencement of pre-Monsoon activities will abate the heatwave conditions over Delhi-NCR and temperatures will subside by 2-3 degrees in the coming days.
