As predicted by Skymet Weather, light pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers occurred in parts of Vidarbha and at isolated stations of South Madhya Maharashtra in the past day.
Within the span of 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, Bramhapuri recorded 10 mm of rains, Wardha 8.2 mm, Sangli 4 mm, Kolhapur 1.4 mm and Vengurla witnessed some traces of rains.
However, this did no wonders in dropping the temperatures. In fact, the same rose further during the last 24 hours. This rise in the mercury levels also paved way for heatwave conditions to make a comeback again over parts of Vidarbha.
As per the maximum temperatures recorded on Sunday, heatwave prevailed in parts of Vidarbha in stations like Bramhapuri, Akola, and Chandrapur with the temperatures settling at 45.1ºC, 45.1ºC, and 44.6ºC, respectively.

Moreover, heatwave like conditions prevailed in few parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as well with Malegaon recording the daytime highs at 44.4ºC, Parbhani 44ºC, Nanded 43ºC, Solapur 42.6ºC, and Aurangabad witnessing the maximums registering at 41.6ºC.
Talking about Konkan, the maximums though remained under the 40-degree mark but were seen settling a few notches above the normal levels. Moreover, continuous moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea resulted in making the day warm and sultry.
As of now also, dry weather is expected to continue in parts of the state. In fact, temperatures would increase further, and heatwave conditions are expected to enhance over the region in the next two to three days.
Though as per Skymet Weather, a trough is seen extending from Chhattisgarh to North Coastal Karnataka across Vidarbha and Marathwada. In the wake of this, isolated pre-Monsoon activities in the form of thundershowers and thunderstorms accompanied with some light and patchy spells cannot be ruled out over Vidarbha and parts of Marathwada in the next 24 hours.
Some parts of Madhya Maharashtra may also witness some thunderstorm activities today evening. On the other hand, Konkan, including Mumbai, Ratnagiri, and Mahabaleshwar would continue to remain dry and humid.
At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:
In the wake of heatwave conditions to continue in Vidarbha and South Madhya Maharashtra, farmers are advised to apply light and frequent irrigation to the summer crops, vegetables like Tomato, Brinjal, and Okra and in fruit orchards.
Farmers should also apply mulch to conserve soil moisture. Spraying should be done to avoid the negative impact of isolated rains. Farmers are also recommended to give support of a stick to the newly planted mango saplings. Also, harvesting of matured mango fruits is advisable during early morning or evening hours. Farmers should also continue land preparation for the sowing of Soybean, Groundnut, Kharif Maize, Black Gram and Red Gram.
