Parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada and Telangana are prone to heatwave conditions during this season. Furthermore, as we progress in May, heatwave also tends to increase its ambit and cover most parts of these states.

Heatwave conditions are declared when the maximum temperature of the city is or above 40˚C and the departure from normal is by 5°C - 6°C.

This year, in the month of May, severe heatwave conditions will prevail over West Rajasthan, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Marathwada and Telangana. Temperatures in all these places are expected to settle above 40˚C and sometimes even exceed 45-degree mark.

Meanwhile, moderate heat will be seen over other parts of Central India, East India and plains of North India where temperatures will be ranging between 35°C - 40°C.

However, mild heat is likely over Southern Peninsula, while temperate conditions will be seen over the northeastern states. Maximum temperatures will be in the lower 30’s at all these places.
