March is the transition period from the chilly season of Winters to scorching Summers in the Indian mainland. The transition usually starts from the South and then gradually shifts upwards covering North India.
In the month of March, South India sees temperatures exceeding 40°C whereas Northern and Northeastern parts observe no such heating pattern at this time.
This year in the month of March, heatwave conditions were observed in the initial ten days of March in Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Rayalaseema. Now whereas the temperatures have come down to normal at most places.
However, temperatures over the Northern and Northeastern states have remained below the normal mark for most parts because of being approached by back to back Western Disturbances and induced systems resulting in winds and rains.

We see that Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odisha and Telangana are the states which observed 30-plus temperatures in both the years. However, comparing the stats from the figure, we can say, that this year the month of March has remained mild for India, barring a few areas.
Talking about the forecast, meteorologists at Skymet don’t predict any heatwave occurrences in the next one week at least.
