The weather of Northwest India was running dry since May 24. Heat wave conditions were also being observed in parts of Delhi and NCR until June 1. Thereafter, the temperatures saw a marginal decrease due to commencement of easterly and southeasterly winds over northern plains including Delhi-NCR and Northwest India i.e. Punjab, North Rajasthan and Haryana. However, heat wave conditions persisted over Northern Rajasthan due to the continuous dry spell.
However, in the last 24 hours, scattered to isolated dust storm activities were observed over Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Delhi and NCR remained dry. A few pockets like Panipat even received hailstorm activity. Now, we expect isolated thunderstorm activities to occur over parts of Punjab and Haryana today as well.
Tomorrow onward, the weather in the region will once again become dry and temperatures will start rising. Heat wave conditions are expected to make a comeback over some parts of Punjab, Haryana and in isolated pockets of Delhi-NCR. Severe heat wave conditions are likely to continue over parts of Delhi and NCR.
We expect temperatures to increase gradually until June 10. Heat wave conditions are expected to make a comeback in some parts.
Around June 11, another Western Disturbance is expected to affect the Western Himalayas. Due to this system, an induced Cyclonic Circulation will once again form over North Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. A Trough is expected to extend up to West Uttar Pradesh. During this period, we expect isolated dust storm and thunderstorm activity on June 11 and 12 over Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan and at one or two places over Delhi and NCR.
During this time, temperatures might reduce once again due to the commencement of Easterly winds.
