Heat wave to abate many parts of Central India

Central India is the second largest rain deficient region after Northwest India. Between April 1 and 19, Northwest India has received 91% deficient rainfall whereas central India is deficient by 79%.

Except Goa, all the states and union territories of Central India are large rain deficient. Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu have not received any rainfall during this period. Prolonged dry spell accompanied with dry and hot westerly and Northwesterly winds led to intense heat wave conditions over Central India.

However, there is a silver lining as pre monsoon activities are expected to commence over many parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and at isolated pockets of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Southern districts of Gujarat such as Amreli, Gir Somnath, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Rajkot, Veraval, Navsari, Surat and Valsad may receive isolated light rain on April 20.

Central and western districts of Madhya Pradesh, east Rajasthan and parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra may receive thunderstorm and activities on April 21st. Weather of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan may become dry April 22nd onwards. But scattered rain activities may continue over parts of Maharashtra until April 24.

These pre monsoon activities will certainly help in reducing the temperature and abatement of heat wave conditions from these States.
