Central India and adjoining areas have been reeling under intense heat wave, with mercury soaring beyond 45 degrees at several places, particularly in Telangana. Monday saw heat breaking several records inRamagundamas mercury touched new heights at 47.2˚C.
The maximum temperature was not only the highest for the season but was also highest in last 10 years. Moreover, it was slightly behind the all-time high temperature for Ramagundam that stands at 47.3˚C, recorded on May 24, 1984.
Nizamabad and Hyderabad also sizzled under heat wave conditions with the maximum temperatures settling at 45.3˚C and 42.5˚C, respectively. In fact, day temperatures are settling 4-5 degrees above the normal average across the state.
The reason for such weather conditions is rise in both day and night temperatures over most places ofTelangana. Maximum temperatures have crossed 45˚C to 46˚C and isolated places have reached up to 47-degree mark.
Further also, no relief is in sight over Telangana, as dry and hot northwesterly winds will continue to increase the temperatures. Telangana is a heat wave prone state and such temperatures are not new during this time of the state. However, residents should refrain from stepping out in sun during the peak afternoon hours and keep themselves hydrated. Threat of sun stroke looms large over the state.
Pre-Monsoon rains have remained sparse, thus Telanganais presently rain deficient by 52%. Although, the city ofHyderabadreceived good rains between May 20 and 22. But rest parts of the state remained almost dry. In fact, since the last one week,heat wave conditions are prevailing over isolated pockets of Telangana.
