Hat-trick week of western disturbance, snow over mountains and thunderstorms lash plains of North India

Trail of three western disturbances in quick succession is likely to pounce over North India during this week. Each of these western disturbances will have a life span of 2 days and the triplet is going to run a relay race handing over the baton before vacating the region. The first western disturbance will affect weather on 09th and 10th March, the second one on 11th and 12th March and the last will spell a wet weekend for the mountains and foothills of northern parts.

The second western disturbance will be strongest having a bigger swathe and fierce punch. Most energetic of this triad, this western disturbance along with its powerful induced cyclonic circulation will lash the hills and plains simultaneously. Also, the national capital of Delhi will be subjected to lightning and thunderstorm with the possibility of hailstorm in some areas. This weather system will have extended coverage reaching the northern parts of Madhya Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh. Peripherals of Rajasthan may also be gripped with lightning and thunderstorm more effectively on 11th March.

A complete range of mountains across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will experience prolonged snowfall activity with thunderstorm, lightning and hail at few places. Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh will have a bigger share with very heavy snowfall at some places on 11th and 12th March. The states of Punjab and Haryana will be the main beneficiaries with few stations likely to receive their monthly rainfall during this spell between 09th and 14th March. Amritsar, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Chandigarh will receive rain and thundershowers between 10th and 12th March. Even Ambala, Karnal, Panipat and Panchkula will experience sporadic showers. Weather activity will reach some parts of Rajasthan on 11th and 12th March wherein stations like Ajmer, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and Suratgarh may also receive passing showers of short duration. Weather activity will be limited on 15th March and clearance over most areas expected from 16th March onward.
