Delhi witnessed moderate thundershower actvity for the 2nd consecutive day yesterday. Tall clouds were accompanied with lightening, thunder and strong gusty winds. More activity is expected today, with powerful thunderstorm during late evening and night. Intensity and duration is likely to be more than the two previous occasions. National capital will complete a hat trick of stormy weather, with a chance of getting spill over for one more day.
Base observatory at Safdarjung recorded moderate rainfall of 16mm, taking the monthly total to 50mm against the normal of 19.1mm. Meteorological office at Lodhi Road recorded highest among the NCT observatories with 23mm and closely followed by Palam airport observatory with 18 mm. Today's rainfall, as per norm, will be counted against 01 Apr.
An active western disturbance is moving across the northern mountains. Well marked induced cyclonic circulation is marked over Southwest Rajasthan. An East-West trough from these systems is running in the close proximity of Delhi. A trough is also placed favourably in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Under the combined influence of these systems, conditions are quite conducive for intense thunderstorm activity in the late evening and night. Rain and thundershowers accompanied with lightning and strong winds are likely to lash most parts of Delhi and suburbs. Possibility of hailstorm in some areas can not be ruled out.
Weather conditions will improve during the day tomorrow. Unlike the last few days, day temperature will get restricted to about 27-28 degree, today and tomorrow. Another short spell of rain is likely on 03rd night/04 morning (April).
