Very heavy rains lashed Mumbai during the weekend and threw life out of gear. For three consecutive days, 24 hours rainfall exceeded 100mm and the peak was on 05th July when a fete of double hundred (201mm) was achieved. With this, the shortfall of June gets covered and the season’s rainfall becomes 191mm more than the normal (01st June - 06th July).

Month of July is the rainiest month for Mumbai with an average rainfall of 841mm.  It is not at all rare for Mumbai to score 100mm or more in 24 hours for three consecutive days.  In 2018, there was a quadruple century of rainfall between 08 July and 11 July. Also, in the month of July, the frequency of days with rainfall 100mm or more varies from 0 to 6 days in the last 10 years.

The threat of having another spell of heavy rain has receded at least for about one week. The offshore trough from Konkan to Kerala will remain mild and there are no indications so far of any other significant system developing. However light rains with few moderate spells will continue for the city and suburbs.
