As the harvest season nears, farmers in the state of Uttar Pradesh are waiting for the right weather to reap their year’s hard work. But the weather conditions do not look very favourable.
The month of March is a transition period from cold to warm season in the Indian Mainland wherein the state of Uttar Pradesh also catches up with heat especially in the second half with temperatures touching close to 40°C (Heat belt usually travels from East to West).
The month of March this year has been a little cooler with below normal temperatures being observed throughout the state. Also, on a very few occasions the temperatures have reached the 40-degree mark.
Crops at this time need sunshine and heat for at least 7 to 10 days, for the grain to be perfectly ripe before it's harvested.
Just yesterday a Western Disturbance has given rains in the hills. The induced system gave light rains down south in the Northern Plains. The same system is now moving eastwards and is likely to cover almost the entire state of Uttar Pradesh today. Light rains are forecast for the next two days, covering major cities such as Allahabad, Lucknow and Bareilly. This will lead to drop in temperatures for at least the next 3 days. The rains will not be heavy in intensity but are sure to delay the harvest as of now.
