The intensity of rains was more over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in comparison to Jammu and Kashmir. Following are the rainfall figures recorded in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday.

In fact, parts of Uttarakhand recorded some hailstorm as well. According to weathermen at Skymet Weather, the summers have not reached its peak over the hills, thus the freezing level is still very low. And, whenever the thunderclouds develop up to the height of 6-7 km, probability of hail storm increase which was the case in Uttarakhand.

These showers can be attributed to the passage of active Western Disturbance across Jammu and Kashmir. The system is still over eastern parts of the state but is gradually clearing away the region.

With this, light to moderate rain and thundershowers would continue over parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Jammu and Kashmir will also see rain and thundershowers but with reduced intensity. Possibility of hailstorm still looms large over these areas.

This might be the last spell of snow for the month as well as for the season. As per weathermen, as we proceed further in March, both the frequency and intensity of Western Disturbances reduce. Not only this, they tend to travel in upper latitudes due to which they do not have much impact on weather over the hilly region.
