Updated on February 15, 11:00 am- Rain in Madhya Pradesh for another 24 hours, to recede thereafter
Eastern of parts of Madhya Pradesh has been receiving widespread light to moderate rain and thundershower activities Friday morning as well. This is due to a Confluence Zone of cold (dry) northerly winds and warm (humid) south-easterly winds. We expect these rains to continue over many parts of East Madhya Pradesh for another 24 hours as well. A few places might even receive intense rain and thundershower activity with a slight possibility of hailstorm. Hailstorm during this time is likely to bring further crop damage. Tomorrow however, the Confluence Zone and rains will shift towards East and weather will start clearing up.
Gradually, the rain deficiency of Madhya Pradesh is improving as successive weather systems- in the form of induced Cyclonic Circulations over Rajasthan keep moving towards East and affecting Madya Pradesh back to back in terms of rain and thundershower activity.
Updated on February 16, 11:21 am- Hailstorm, rain in MP continue, crop damage in Ujjain, Neemuch, Dewas; danger not over yet
Unseasonal rains and thundershowers continue to lash parts of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday morning. These showers were also accompanied with hailstorm and strong winds have led to massive crop damage across the state, particularly in Mandsaur, Neemuch, Dewas and Ujjain.
According to agri experts, Opium crop has borne the maximum brunt as around 90% is damaged. In fact, rest of the Rabi crops such as Wheat, Fenugreek, Black Gram, Coriander, Mustard and Lentils have also reported loss of at least 30%-40%. However, exact loss estimates are yet to be ascertained.
The danger is not over yet, as we expect more spells of rain and hailstorm to lash several parts of the state throughout the day today.
According to weathermen, rain bearing clouds had engulfed Madhya Pradesh during the early morning hours, with rains making appearance thereafter. At present as well, major cities like Datiya, Ujjain, Gwalior, Shivpuri and Guna are witnessing rainfall activity. Thunderstorm and lightening strikes are also being witnessed at many places.

These rains can be attributed to the active Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir, that has induced a Cyclonic Circulation over parts of Rajasthan and its neighborhood. Also, a Confluence Zone has formed over the area due to the convergence of cold and dry north westerlies and warm and humid easterlies.
Weather systems are going to persist for the next 24 hours, simultaneously moving eastwards. Thus, rain belt would also shift to East Madhya Pradesh as well. According to Skymet Weather, moderate rains along with hailstorm and thunderstorm are in offing for this part of the state till February 15. Meanwhile, rains over West Madhya Pradesh would seize by today evening.
