Delhi and its adjoining areas like Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad experienced a good rainy spell around February 7. Thereafter, the weather over Delhi-NCR became pleasant and sunny. These rains also bought short relief from poor to very poor pollution levels in the city and foggy days.
However, in the last two days, due to very light winds and no rain, the weather in Delhi and its neighbouring areas has become completely dry with pollution levels increasing. The AQI index in Delhi-NCR now stands between very poor to severe category.
Meanwhile, an active Western Disturbance is approaching the hills of North India, and an induced cyclonic circulation can be seen over Northwest Rajasthan and its adjoining areas. A trough is also extending from this system up to Uttar Pradesh.
These weather systems are likely to act in tandem and give scattered light rain over Delhi-NCR during the afternoon/evening hours of February 13.
On February 14, the intensity of rain is expected to increase due to the eastward movement of the induced cyclonic circulation over Delhi and NCR region.
On Valentine’s Day, Delhi-NCR will witness intense spells of rain and thundershowers with isolated hailstorm activity. Light scattered rains are expected to continue over the national capital region till February 15. By February 16, the weather systems will move towards east India giving rain in Uttar Pradesh.
As a consequence of the rainfall activity, maximums in Delhi and its adjoining areas will drop by 2˚C to 4˚C, while the maximums will again start increasing February 16 onwards.
