The state of Odisha has observed hailstorm in the past 24 hours. This is the season when Odisha gets hail on two accounts, Anticyclone is over northern parts of Bay of Bengal which pumps up moisture over the region. On account of trough or other system, combined influence of these gives hailstorm.
During the next 24 hours also, we can expect the southern half of the state to observe rain as well as hailstorm activities. These activities will not be extensive but can be observed today as well as tomorrow.
Hailstorm happens in the interior parts because temperatures are higher in the interior regions and coastal temperatures are always 4-5 degrees lower than the interior parts. In fact, trijunction of Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand are observing maximums about 36-38 degrees Celsius, which will act as an additional trigger for the hailstorm and rains.
