After having a persistent dry and hot weather over the City of Joy, Kolkata is finally going to witness some rainfall activity today evening or night.
For quite some time now, the temperatures of Kolkata were on the high side. The weather was generally hot with days being very sultry. With its close proximity to large water bodies and constant blow of winds from south direction, the weather remained uncomfortable.
This rain activity can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Bihar and a trough from this is seen up to Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. Short spell can be seen over the area with intense activity. Such weather is normal over the area. Squalls can be expected with the rainfall.
Temperatures in the last 24 hours were near normal but the discomfort in the day weather made it feel like more than the actual. Gladly, the weather of early morning and late night were comparatively pleasant. This means that the weather cooled down as quickly it goes up.
Kolkata receives 59 mm of rainfall, which is average for the time period, in the month of April. This rainfall is seen in the mere span of 3-4 days. Till date Kolkata has not witnessed any rainfall in the month of April and this recent expected rainfall is definitely welcomed by the residents.
In 2014 and way back in 2009, Kolkata didn’t receive any rainfall in the month of April. There is direct correlation between drought years and no rainfall in Kolkata in the month of April. So Kolkata should keep up their hopes as more than 10 days are left in the month of April.
