It was a rainy Thursday morning and people in the NCR region of Gurugram couldn’t have asked for more. Little did they know while leaving their homes how nasty things would turn due to incessant downpour in the concrete city.
The National Highway 8 was jam packed with cars merely able to crawl resulting in hours of traffic jam which began during the evening and commuters were stuck for more than seven hours until midnight. Intermittent showers in Gurugram resulted in knee deep water logging wreaking havoc over the residents.
The National Highway 8 is the road that connects Delhi to Jaipur and is the lifeline of commuters travelling to and from Delhi and Gurugram. Scores of trucks also remained stranded. Several commuters were stuck in knee deep waters for hours without fuel or water.
Hero Honda Chowk in Gurugram remains submerged even now. As per officials, these conditions were a result of breach in Badshahpur drain. The Gurgugram Police has issued a warning asking people from Delhi to stay away from Gurugram as situation continues to remain grim.
In fact, the district magistrate has also announced that schools in Gurugram remain closed on both July 29 and 30 keeping in view the present situation. The worst part is that on and off rains are expected to continue during the next 24 to 48 hours which will only make situation worse.
