Gujarat generally witnesses several variations in the weather during the winter season. While Saurashtra region of the state has a coastal effect due its long coastline, North Gujarat and Kutch region are influenced by the weather of plains of Northwest India.

December and January are considered to be coldest months for Gujarat. Especially during the second half of December, minimum temperatures drop down to single digit temperatures.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, minimum temperatures that had increased in last 24 hours due to passage of Western Disturbance, will now start decreasing. As the Western Disturbance clears the region, cold and dry northwesterly winds will start blowing over the region which will pull down the mercury.

Initially during the next 24 hours, drop in night temperatures will be marginal by one degree. Thereafter, it will drop further by two to three degrees.

With this, nights and mornings will be extremely cold and chilly in coming days. As per Skymet, no relief is likely for at least next five days as minimum temperatures will continue to settle on lower side. However, days will be warm with clear sky.

Maximum temperatures are expected to settle in lower 30s in plains, while day temperatures in coastal areas will be in higher 20s. Similarly, minimum temperatures in plains and coastal areas will be around 12°C and 15°C, respectively.
