Gujarat to witness some more light rain

August 26, 2016 12:05 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Many areas of Gujarat have received light to moderate showers. In fact, some areas have witnessed heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours.

These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Southeast Rajasthan which continues to persist and is extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. Furthermore, this system is expected to move in a westerly direction and thus weaken gradually. Also, the Monsoon trough is passing across north of Gujarat.

In a span of 24 hours, Amreli received 45.2 mm of rainfall, Kandla recorded 16.1 mm, Veraval 12.2 mm and Bhavnagar 7.2 mm of rainfall.

Kutch region is still witnessing subdued rains; however, this present system has given light rains over the region in the last 24 hours. The coastal areas also observed light to moderate rains.

As the system is moving away, rainfall activity will reduce in most parts after 24 hours. But for now, light rain is expected to continue over many regions with coastal areas witnessing light with isolated moderate showers for next 12 hours. Thereafter, this rainfall activity will decrease further.

At present, Gujarat subdivision is rain deficient by 22%, while Saurashtra and Kutch region is observing rainfall deficiency of 17%. With the subdued rainfall activity to continue over the state from tomorrow, these rains will help a bit to bring down the rain deficiency but not drastically.
