The spell of extremely high temperatures in Gujarat has come to an end, thanks to widespread rain and snowfall in North India.
Day temperatures in several parts of the state were settling 6-7 degrees Celsius above normal average. According to the data available with Skymet Meteorology Division in India, maximum temperature in Ahmedabad dropped from 37.1°C on February 22 to 29.5°C on Thursday.
Similarly, Bhuj saw the maximum soaring 7 degrees above normal at 38.3°C, highest in last ten years on February 22. Maximum temperature here has now dropped to 29°C.
Rajkot, lying in the Saurashtra region, saw temperature rising to 38.5°C on the 22nd. Night was also hot with minimum at 21.7°C on 23rd morning. This rocky area also received some relief as maximum dropped to 29.7°C yesterday. Minimum dropped significantly to settle at 13.5°C.
The Western Disturbance which brought good amounts of rain and snowfall in North India could be attributed to this change in weather conditions. The wind pattern has also changed from warm and moist southwesterly winds to cool northeasterlies.
Temperatures will maintain levels for another 24 hours. After which a fresh Western Disturbance along with an induced cyclonic circulation over south Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat region will start affecting weather over many parts including Saurashtra & Kutch on the 28th of February.
