The state of Gujarat has been experiencing almost dry and very warm weather conditions since the beginning of this pre-Monsoon season. Although due to its geographical location, this is not an unusual situation for the state.
Gujarat tends to witness pre-Monsoon weather activities under the influence of any strong weather system present either in Arabian Sea off Gujarat or Maharashtra Coast and the presence of an induced cyclonic circulation over southern parts of Rajasthan.
May 17 was the last time when parts of the state managed to record few spells of light rain and thundershower activities. These weather activities occurred in association with a cyclonic circulation over Southwest Rajasthan and increase in moisture over the state due to southwesterly winds.
Along with this, temperatures which were high settling in lower 40’s, helped in the formation of convective clouds which further lead to scattered rains over Gujarat region including of places like Amreli and Kutch region. In the wake of these rains, temperatures of most places in Gujarat dropped.
At present, a cyclonic circulation is seen over Southwest Rajasthan in the lower levels. Even though, sky will become partly cloudy in Kutch region, but we do not expect any significant weather activities over the region.
Moreover, now flow of southwesterly winds has eased out and winds are blowing from west/northwest direction. Therefore, temperatures are expected to increase over Gujarat by a couple of degrees and settle above 40˚C. Heat wave conditions are likely to make a come back and weather will remain dry.
