After a prolonged spell of dry weather, Gujarat is expected to receive scattered rainfall from the night of June 7. Light scattered rainfall activity is expected to continue thereafter for 3 to 4 days. Initially, the south coast of Gujarat including Dwarka, Porbandar, Veraval, Surat, and Valsad will be the places to be affected by the weather activity.
Gradually, central parts of the state including Rajkot, Bhuj, Jamnagar will also start receiving some rain. According to Skymet, the rainfall activity will continue for next 72 hours, but the pattern of rain will be patchy.
At present, the temperatures are slightly above normal. But after rain in the region, they will come down to settle at normal levels. The reason for rain in the state is a low pressure area that is developing over east-central Arabian Sea which will move in the north north-west direction and will further affect areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Normally, during the first few days of June, rainfall in Gujarat remains scanty. However, by mid-June rainfall activity picks up and fairly widespread rain is observed over most parts of the state. The onset date of Monsoon in the state is June 15.
