The state of Gujarat experiences two summers once in the pre-Monsoon period and again in the post-Monsoon period. The first summer season is more severe and longer, extending from April to June. The sun at this point of time remains over the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere.
As the sun has now slipped to the Southern Hemisphere, the second short summer has arrived in Gujarat. Day temperatures started rising with the retreat of Southwest Monsoon from the state. Maximum temperatures have been settling in higher thirties for the last few days and are well above the normal average temperatures.
Here’s a look at the maximum temperatures recorded on Wednesday:
This rise in temperatures could be attributed to clear skies, reversal of wind pattern and drier winds from Pakistan. The anti-cyclone formed over Gujarat and adjoining Rajasthan region is a semi-permanent feature. It changes the wind pattern to easterlies and accordingly brings down the temperatures. Whenever the anti-cyclone becomes less marked or gets diffused, it leads to heating of the land mass in Gujarat. These easterly winds are relatively cooler.
Weather Forecast for Gujarat
The weather in Gujarat will remain hot and humid at least for next 3 days. At present, even the coastal areas are witnessing very high temperatures. With temperatures in higher thirties and high humidity levels, the discomfort level is quite high. But, relief likely in next 2 to 3 days as the anti-cyclone will reappear over the region.
