Gujarat sizzle again, heatwave likely by the weekend

Heat is going to catch up again for Gujarat and scorching temperatures are staring at most parts outside coastal stations. So far, the day temperature shied away from touching the 40°C marks except at Bhuj on 05th March. The last week of March will see a steady rise of mercury touching 41°C at many places. Interiors of Saurashtra and North Gujarat will be more susceptible to this blaze which may even spill over to 1stweek of April.

Entire North India including Rajasthan, the neighbouring state of Gujarat, experienced fairly wide spread rain and thundershower for consecutive 3 days (21-23 March). This unusually prolonged wet spell for the hills and plains of North India arrested any sharp rise of temperature over the state. The complete weather activity is on the verge of clearance tomorrow onward and this break will last till month-end or even later. Steady and strong winds straying from the north sweeping the state will change, over the next 3days and accordingly the mercury is expected to shoot beyond 41°C.

Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Baroda, Patan, Deesa, Rajkot, Bhuj and many other stations have a track record of touching 42°C during the last days of March. The vernal equinox on the 20th March is already behind, paving way for the extreme heat to build up in the ensuing days. The state as such remains immune to any pre monsoon thunderstorm activity till May and the status oscillate only between hot and hotter for most parts. The upcoming festival of Holi is going to sear with dry and hot weather. Such conditions will prolong till arrival of monsoon around mid June.
