The state of Gujarat continues to be dry and hot with day temperature breaching 35°C in the capital city of Gandhinagar. Interiors of North Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch located across the Tropic of Cancer have also been inching and recording similar mercury level over the last few days. Deesa, Patan, Idar, Palanpur, Mehsana and Bhuj are measuring temperatures 3-4°C above the normal. Also, the minimum temperature at many places in Gujarat are jumping the threshold normal by a similar margin.
Gujarat as such is the least weather-sensitive state during the winter months of January and February. Extreme cold is not witnessed often but spontaneous heating towards the second half of February is very common. Winter season in Gujarat seems to be over for the state and now await blazing days anytime towards last week of Feb and more of it at the commencement of March.
Unseasonal weather activity is likely over the neighbouring states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra between 15th and 19th February. Rain and thundershower with possible hailstorm at few places are expected during this period. However, the entire state of Gujarat seems to be safe from the reach of this wet spell and is likely to continue with sweltering conditions. Central and South Gujarat along with interiors of Saurashtra will sweat and bear oppressive heat for this week. The upcoming days of March will carry these stuffy and sultry weather further to peak the pre-monsoon season.
