Gujarat rejoices after two consecutive days of Monsoon rains

August 1, 2016 1:14 PM |

Rain in Gujarat 2Gujarat has been mainly dry in the month of July. Only light on and off rains have been observed so far in the state. However, weather has changed drastically over the state during the last 2 days.

On Saturday, Veraval had witnessed a whopping 107 mm of rainfall while during last 24 hours the city received about 32 mm.  .

The rainfall figures in Gujarat over a period of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Sunday: Rajkot 58.2 mm, Bhavnagar 56 mm, Vadodra 48.8 mm, Veraval 31.5 mm, Surat 10 mm and Idar 9.5 mm of rainfall.

This spell of rainfall could be attributed to multiple weather systems. The feeble upper air cyclonic circulation persists over North Gujarat. There is also a cyclonic circulation lying over Southwest Uttar Pradesh and a trough from this weather system is extending up to the Gujarat region.

Moreover, the semi-permanent off-shore trough is extending from coastal areas of Maharashtra to Karnataka coast.

All these weather systems have been instrumental in bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall over many parts of the state, particularly central and eastern parts of Gujarat. However, Kutch area has been mainly dry.

Skymet Weather believes that moderate to heavy showers will continue over East and Southeast Gujarat during the next 24 to 48 hours. As on July 31, the subdivision of Gujarat Region has received 39% less rains than the normal for the season so far.
