Most parts of the state of Gujarat received light to moderate showers in the past 24 hours. Saurashtra bore the front and the coastline was battered with heavy rains. Veraval, Porbandar, Dwarka, Okha, Jamnagar, Khambalia and Rajkot received heavy rainfall. Parts of Kutch also recorded moderate showers, along with the interiors of North Gujarat. More heavy showers are likely for Saurashtra over the next 3 days. Other parts of the state will also have decent showers during this period.

Two factors have been responsible for the uptick in the weather activity over the state. There is a cyclonic circulation over Southwest Pakistan over the Sind-Balochistan region in the lower levels of the atmosphere. A trough extends from the system across Kutch and Saurashtra to the Northeast Arabian Sea. An off-shore trough is marked off the South Gujarat coast, further extending southward across the coastline. Under the combined influence of these two systems, the state of Gujarat is poised for a spike in weather activity over the next 3 days.

The coastline along South Gujarat will have moderate showers, interspersed with isolated heavy rainfall. Navsari, Vapi, Valsad, Surat and Bharuch will have fairly widespread rains. Rains will be intense and stronger over Saurashtra. The western half of Saurashtra will be more vulnerable to vigorous weather activity. The coastline starting from Una-Diu and running along Somnath, Porbandar, Dwarka, Okha, Jamnagar, and Khambaliya will be at risk of inclement weather conditions. The activity will spill over to the interiors of Saurashtra covering Junagarh, Rajkot, Morbi and Surendranagar.  The tongue of this activity may breach parts of Kutch, surrounding Kandla, Bhuj and Naliya.
