Gujarat Rain Update: Heavy Rains Likely, Light-Moderate Showers In Saurashtra-Kutch

Gujarat May experience a reprieve from the Heavy rains.

Parts of Saurashtra have been deluged in the last week.  The coastal belt from Jamnagar-Okha to Dwarka-Porbandar has flooded with extreme record rainfall for the last few days. In the past 24 hours also,  the chief amounts of rainfall recorded were:  Dwarka-215mm, Okha-127mm, and Porbandar-100mm. Porbandar had earlier recorded 486mm 24-hour rainfall on 19th July and Dwarka recorded 419mm on 20th July. In the last seven days, Porbandar, Dwarka and Okha have accumulated 911mm, 857mm and 618mm of rainfall, respectively. These are record rainfall for the month of July.

The heavy rainfall over Saurashtra and Kutch was under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over extreme Southwest Pakistan and adjoining Arabian Sea. This system has since the weekend. The rainfall will reduce substantially now and will confine to light to moderate spells for the next few days. However, the rainfall activity will increase over central and northern parts of Gujarat. Also, there will be an uptick of monsoon showers over South Coastal Gujarat.

Moderate to heavy rainfall will take place over Coastal Gujarat covering Vapi, Navsari, Valsad, Surat and Bharuch over the next two days, the 23rd and 24th of July. Over central and north Gujarat, the places at risk will include Dahod, Panchmahal, Godhra, Chhota Udaipur, Kheda, Narmada, Sabarkantha, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The intensity and spread of rainfall will be higher on the second day, 24th July 2024. The spread and strength of rainfall will reduce thereafter and the lean phase may last for about one week.
