Gujarat has been experiencing dry weather conditions for the last many days. During this pre-monsoon season, the Gujarat region has received on and off rain and thundershower activities. That is why, between March 1st and April 11, the Gujarat region is a rain surplus by 190%. On the other hand, Saurashtra and Kutch did not receive enough rainfall. therefore, it is deficient by 21%.

Temperatures are increasing over Gujarat as an anticyclone is over the northwest Arabian Sea. Due to this, dry and hot northwesterly winds are blowing over Gujarat leading to an increase in temperature. At present, most of the interior parts of Gujarat have recorded a maximum of 40 degrees or more. Isolated pockets of Gujarat are experiencing heatwave conditions. Disha and Bhuj have recorded 42.5 which is 4 degrees above normal. Heatwave conditions are prevailing over Naliya and Porbandar, real maximum temperatures are above normal by 6 degrees.

Now we expect that these heatwave conditions will cover some more parts of the state in coming 48 hours. Thereafter, as the anticyclone will move towards the east, leading to a change in wind direction from northwesterly to West Southwesterly. Temperatures of the Gujarat state will drop by a couple of degrees from April 14 onwards leading to abatement of heatwave conditions and at some pockets of the state.
