Southwest Monsoon continues to hammer Gujarat mainly the coastal areas of the state with extremely heavy showers that has resulted in submerging roads in many pockets. In fact, the last 24 hours were extremely harsh for the state and districts like Kandla and Valsad were inundated in flooding torrential rains. These incessant showers even led to traffic snarls, creating chaotic situation among the locals. In a span of 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Monday, Valsad recorded extremely heavy showers of 282 mm, followed by Kandla that witnessed a whopping 238 mm of inundating rains.

The other districts of Gujarat too observed moderate to heavy rains during the similar time frame. Amreli recorded 53 mm, Bhavnagar 45 mm, and Rajkot 43 mm. But rain in Ahmedabad was light in nature as Amreli witnessed 4 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for such flooding rains in parts of Gujarat can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is over Kutch and adjoining south Rajasthan. Moreover, a depression is also over South Odisha and North Andhra coast.

This depression is pulling in moist winds from the Arabian Sea. That is the reason Monsoon is vigorous over Saurashtra and Kutch region and the adjoining west coast due to which heavy rains that led to floods occurred in Kandla and Valsad.

Skymet Weather further reiterates that flooding rains are likely to continue over many parts of Gujarat and particularly Kutch for the next 24 hours. Relief is anticipated thereafter but flood situation which is in many parts of Gujarat will get aggravated due to these heavy rains.
