Due to very heavy showers, Rajkot has been on red alert as flood threat prevails over the region. The city has already surpassed its average monthly rain of 253.4 mm.

During the similar time frame, light to moderate showers were recorded in other regions like Kandla 29 mm, Porbandar 20 mm, Mahuva 17 mm, Baroda and Ahmedabad at 10 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the low pressure area which is presently over South Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat region. A day before this system was a well-marked low that resulted in such extremely good showers over the state.

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, the intensity of rains was more over Kutch and Saurashtra region. Further, Weathermen anticipate Sundernagar, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Valsad, Rajkot and Bhuj to record moderate rains with heavy showers over few parts during the next 24 hours.

On the other hand, rains will remain of light to moderate intensity over areas like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Baroda.

The weather system is likely to move away westwards from the Gujarat region; as a result, rains will lessen over the area. However the weather conditions are not expected to go dry and intermittent showers will continue to show up.
