Heavy to extremely heavy rains have battered several parts of Gujarat during the last 24 hours, particularly Rajkot. The city has recorded some recording breaking showers to the tune of 348 mm in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday.

This is the highest spell of rains recorded in last 10 years in the period of 24 hours. The city has also surpassed its monthly average rainfall of 253.4 mm.

Surendranagar has recorded whopping 141 mm of rain, followed by Deesa at 109 mm. However, Ahmedabad recorded moderate showers of 25 mm, Idar 30 mm, and Kandla 21 mm. Rest of the places of the state has recorded light showers.

According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the well-marked low pressure which is now marked over West Madhya Pradesh and adjoining East Rajasthan.

The system continues to move in a west direction and is soon likely to intensify into a depression during the next 24 hours.
Thus, more heavy rains are likely to lash several parts of Gujarat on Saturday as well. However, as the system is moving westwards, the intensity of rains will be more over Saurashtra and Kutch region.

Weathermen predict Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhuj, Idar, Surendranagar, Junagarh, Dwarka, Amreli, Surat, and Bulsar are likely to record some heavy to very heavy rains during the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, areas like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Bhavnagar may see a drop in rainfall but light to moderate rains cannot be ruled out.

We expect the system to clear away the Gujarat region by July 16, as a result rains will reduce Sunday onwards. But the weather will not go dry and rains of varying intensity will continue.
