Gujarat gears up for more Monsoon rains

September 17, 2016 3:06 PM |

Rain in GujaratSouth Gujarat has been recording good Monsoon rains for the last few days, with isolated places recording heavy showers as well. Last 24 hours were no different as most parts of the region received fairly widespread light to moderate showers.

Surat recorded 70 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Narmada 50 mm, Navsari 30 mm, Diu 29 mm, Anand 20 mm, Godhra 20 mm, Vadodara 20 mm, Mahuva 10.6 mm and Veraval 3.5 mm.

All thanks to the cyclonic circulation prevailing over South Madhya Pradesh. In addition to this, a trough is also extending from this system up to North Arabian Sea across Gujarat.

Further, with the system likely to persist, we can expect more number of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places with few heavy spells over South Gujarat during the next 48 hours.

Weathermen predict that initially intensity of rain will be more over Surat, Valsad, Navsari, Narmada, and Bhavnagar. Thereafter, rain belt will gradually shift towards Amreli, Rajkot and nearly districts which will then start recording moderate showers.

Subsequently, rain activity will reduce significantly September 20, as the cyclonic circulation will become insignificant. September 21 onwards, mainly dry weather conditions will make a comeback but isolated rains cannot be ruled out at one or two places.
