Southwest Monsoon has poured heavy rains over the State of Gujarat. The heavy rains led to flooding over many areas due to which thousands of people got affected.
As per Skymet Weather, the flood situation remains grim over Banaskantha and Patan. While the rain intensity has reduced significantly over these districts, light to moderate rains may continue for the next 24 to 48 hours. These rains may cause difficulties in relief and rescue operations.

It is anticipated that any significant weather system will not develop over Gujarat for the next one week, therefore, heavy rains are not expected over the region. The flood situation will improve and dry weather conditions will prevail over almost all the districts of Gujarat after two to three days. Temperatures are also likely to increase significantly but will remain in lower 30’s.

In the past 24 hours most parts of the state witnessed light to moderate intensity rains. Baroda recoded 16 mm of rain, Valsad 14 mm, Bhavnagar 11 mm, Deesa 4.7 mm. Surat, Veraval, Bhuj, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar also recorded light rains. These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is persisting over Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining South Pakistan.
Due to this, moderate south westerly winds from the Arabian Sea are blowing over most parts of Gujarat. Due to these combined weather systems, light to moderate rains occurred over Gujarat.
The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Vijay Rupani is currently visiting the flood affected district of Banaskantha and is likely to stay there for 5 days to keep a close eye on relief operations. As per Rupani, it is the worst flood situation in the century. Over 185 people have lost their lives due to floods, and major quantities of crops have also been damaged. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has announced funds for victims affected due to floods.
