Southwest Monsoon made a late onset over parts of Gujarat wherein during the initial days, the state remained deficit in terms of rainfall activity. However, there have been a spurt of weather systems resulting in hefty rains over the state of Gujarat.
Moreover, these heavy rains began with South Gujarat including the cities of Valsad and Surat which also observed flooding conditions. Later on, rainfall activity also increased over parts of Saurashtra including Veraval and Bhavnagar.
A day before, hefty rainfall activity was observed interior parts of Saurashtra with Rajkot, Dwarka, Porbandar and Okha seeing heavy rains.

In fact, during the last 24 hours, hefty rains were also recorded over Porbandar, along with some heavy showers over Dwarka, Valsad and Veraval.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Porbandar saw 200 mm of rains, Dwarka 82 mm, Valsad 64 mm, Veraval 54 mm, and Mahuva 24 mm.
This is the second consecutive day wherein three-digit rainfall has been recorded over the state of Gujarat. Moreover, the flood situation over the state continues to remain grim. In fact, until now, these floods have claimed 30 lives in the state.
Prime Minister Modi has also cancelled his visit to Gujarat which was scheduled on July 20 due to the prevailing flood situation. Modi was supposed to visit cities of Valsad, Junagadh, and Gandhinagar for several functions.
Now also, the flood situation is expected to remain grim over the state of Gujarat as rainfall activity of varied intensity is expected to continue over the state for the next few days. Heavy rains have already caused the water bodies to overflow resulting in the situation to be all the graver.
Another system is expected to affect the state of Gujarat after about four days which will further bring a bout of heavy rainfall activity once again resulting in worsening of the situation.
