Gujarat feeling hot in winter as mercury rises sharply

February 2, 2017 12:29 PM |

Gujarat weather mainAs winter in India enters its last phase, change in wind pattern and weather can be felt at several areas of North India. While Delhi, Punjab and Haryana are witnessing a fluctuation in temperature on and off, Rajasthan and Gujarat are observing dwindling winter chill with a rise in minimum temperature.

Temperatures have increased in last few days and have settled above normal by 2-3 degrees in several parts of Gujarat. While minimum temperature in Bhuj was recorded at 15.8°C, 4 degrees above normal on February 2, Deesa, Rajkot and Baroda observed minimums above normal by 2-3 °C.

The trend is similar for maximum temperature as well that is settling above normal by 4-5°C for several places leading to warm and discomforting afternoons for this time of the year.

Currently, warm and humid southwesterly winds are blowing across Gujarat resulting in high temperatures across the state. A trough is seen extending from North Arabian Sea up to Gujarat and due to which temperatures are expected to continue to rise by 1-2°C.

As a result, people of Gujarat will be left to reel under warm and sunny afternoons while nights will also provide very less relief as cool nights will only last for only a few days.
