The state of Gujarat is facing the monsoon fury, much more than the other parts of the country. Coastline of Saurashtra is getting battered with extremely heavy rains. The coastal town of Porbandar, a historic port city literally drowned with extremely heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours. The ancient city received an all-time high of 486mm of rainfall in 24 hours.  Other cities like Veraval, Diu and Okha also recorded heavy rains.

The city of Porbandar was exclusive to the record of extreme rainfall over the state of Gujarat. Not only did the city get a massive total of 486mm in 24 hours, but a major chunk of 200mm of rainfall was received in just three hours between 5.30a.m and 8.30a.m, this morning. This was even more than the cloud burst conditions, mostly witnessed in the mountains.

Heavy and moderate rains are likely to continue over the state. More of these are over Saurashtra and South Coastal Gujarat. The Coastline of Saurashtra covering Veraval, Somnath, Porbandar, Dwarka, Okha, Khambaliya and Jamnagar and parts of Kutch will remain at risk of pouring rains. Extremely heavy rains are likely to revisit Saurashtra on the 22nd and 23rd of July 2024. South Coastal and central Gujarat will also receive heavy rainfall at many places during this period. Capital cities Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad also bear the risk of heavy rains, on these two days.
