July 2, 2016 6:22 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The off shore Monsoon trough is active along the West Coast, extending from South Gujarat to North Kerala. Moderate to strong southwesterly surge is also prevailing over the region. Moreover, the Southwest Monsoon has covered most parts of Saurashtra.

For the last few days, South Gujarat and the coastal regions have been receiving widespread rainfall, but on a light note.

During last 24 hours, Surat received 9.4 mm of rain, Valsad 6 mm and Mahuva 3 mm.

Monsoon performance in Gujarat so far, July 1, 2016: Valsad is -58%, Surat -75%, Gandhinagar 85%, Ahmedabad -89%, Vadodara -80%. Overall the Gujarat state is rain deficit by 72%.

Though Monsoon arrived over Gujarat on June 22, Monsoon activity remained weak over the region and the state has not received enough rains till date.

We can expect light rain to continue in coastal parts of Gujarat with isolated very light rainfall in the interiors during next few days. Thus, we can say that weak Monsoon current will prevail over the region for the next week.
