After a few good spells during the first initial days of August, weather of Gujarat and Rajasthan is almost dry with isolated light rains. Moreover, the two states have not witnessed much showers since August 10.

In fact, during last 24 hours, both the states have seen a close to nil rainfall. However, now, once again rain is expected to make a comeback over the eastern parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat region from August 19 onward.

The depression which was over northwest Bay of Bengal will gradually intensify into a deep depression and move in a westerly direction. This will give good rains over East India. Thereafter, central parts of the country including Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are also likely to witness some good showers.

Henceforth, after August 19, it is again expected to weaken into a low pressure area and will give scattered light to moderate rains over East Rajasthan. However, rain intensity will be much more over southeastern Rajasthan and Gujarat region.

These rains are likely to further increase the rain statistics of these two states. At present, Gujarat region stands at a rain deficiency of 23 percent while Saurashtra and Kutch region is witnessing a rain deficiency of 16 percent.

On the other hand, Rajasthan is enjoying a rain surplus. At present, East Rajasthan is 51 percent rain surplus while the West region of Rajasthan is enjoying 24 percent surplus rains.

Scattered rain activities will continue over Gujarat and East Rajasthan till August 21 and 22. Though heavy to extremely heavy rains are not foreseen as of now.
