Gujarat and Rajasthan continue with good rainfall activity

Gujarat and Rajasthan are receiving very good rainfall since the beginning of October. Normal rainfall of Gujarat and Rajasthan for October is very less. But due to the persistence of a cyclonic circulation over Konkan & Goa and adjoining Gujarat and southwest Madhya Pradesh, both of these states have received excess rainfall.

If we see the rain figures from October 1 to 4, then West Rajasthan is 286% surplus and East Rajasthan is 115% rainfall surplus. Similar is the case with Gujarat, Saurashtra & Kutch region is 357% rainfall surplus and Gujarat region 380%. These figures look astounding because the normal rainfall is low.

These are the initial rain figures but this surplus figure will go down significantly because after 3-4 days the weather system will weaken. The rainfall intensity will also decrease over Rajasthan but on & off rains will continue over South Gujarat till October 9-10.

During the first half of Southwest Monsoon, Gujarat state received very less rainfall. But rain intensity picked up in later half of Monsoon. The rains in the latter half of Monsoon were beneficial for Kharif crops.

But the current rainfall activity will adversely affect the output of Kharif crop as most of the crops are ready for harvest over Gujarat and Rajasthan. And during harvesting time such rainfall is palpable.
