Gujarat, north east Rajasthan to receive good spells of rain in next 24 hours

September 21, 2013 7:39 PM |

The low pressure area has moved further in a south west direction and is presently seen over south east Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh. The east west trough from south Chhattisgarh to Gujarat will be responsible for widespread rains over central and west India. The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to mid tropospheric levels.

The feeble western disturbance persists in higher ridges over north Pakistan and Jammu & Kashmir. Easterly winds will continue to prevail over the northern plains. Temperatures are expected to be above normal by a couple of notches in west Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Scattered rain will continue over Delhi, Haryana, north Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh for the next 24 hours. Temperatures in rest of north west India will remain marginally below normal.

Rain and thundershowers are expected at few places over Odisha, Jharkhand, sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. However, the temperatures will be marginally above normal. Intensity of rainfall over north east will reduce significantly, keeping the mercury levels above normal by 2 to 3 degrees.

Temperatures in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat will be below normal by 2 to 4 degrees due to a cloudy sky bringing light spells of rain. Intensity of rain will also increase over Vidharbha and South Chhattisgarh.

The offshore trough from Karnataka to Kerala coast has now become less marked, keeping the southern peninsula dry. Temperatures will rise further by a couple of notches in Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
