Gorakhpur witnesses very dense fog for second consecutive day

December 2, 2014 2:00 PM |

Fog in Uttar PradeshThick fog is confined to east Uttar Pradesh and Bihar especially, along the foothills. While, shallow fog has been observed in Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Gangetic West Bengal.

On Tuesday morning, Gorakhpur reported nil visibility for the second consecutive day, as thick layer of fog engulfed the entire city. This was followed by Patna and Imphal at 500 meters and Kolkata  at 800 meters. None of the coastal areas witnessed any fog, unlike on Monday.

Meanwhile, North India continues to escape fog. On December 2, Delhi and Amritsar, two of the most fog prone areas of the region, reported good visibility of 2000 meters.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the reason for the absence of fog from the region for last few days is the persistent above normal minimum temperatures. However, we expect drop in minimums during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, low temperatures combined with high humidity levels will lead to conducive atmospheric conditions for fog over the northern plains.

At present, fog over most of the places has been shallow, while dense and very dense fog that affects traffic is yet to be witnessed. As we enter December, fog will become more frequent and widespread.
