Like July, August too started on a rainy note for the state of Uttar Pradesh, particularly eastern parts. According to Skymet Weather, last 24 hours saw some moderate to heavy showers, wherein Babatpur observatory in Varanasi recorded 50 mm of rain in the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, while city observatory recorded 44 mm. This was followed by Najibabad 35 mm, Shahjahanpur 15 mm and Bareilly 13 mm. Cities like Meerut, Gorakhpur, and Kanpur also witnessed light intensity rains.
At present, the axis of Monsoon trough is running over Uttar Pradesh and hence rains have picked up pace over many parts of the state. With this, mainly southeastern and northwestern districts have received good rains.

Presently the axis of Monsoon trough is running across Budayun towards East India. Therefore, we expect good rains to continue over many parts of Uttar Pradesh for the next three to four days. The intensity of rain will be more over the northern districts or foothills of the state.

Places like Bareilly, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Gorakhpur may receive few heavy spells but other districts such as Kanpur, Lucknow, Sultanpur, Shahjahanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi may also receive light to moderate rains.
As per Skymet Weather, it is anticipated that the first 10 days of August are going to be good for Uttar Pradesh in terms of Monsoon rains. As on July 31, West Uttar Pradesh is deficit by 21 percent and East Uttar Pradesh by 7 percent.
The rain deficiency may become normal due to the ongoing rains. These rains may also help significantly for the sowing of upcoming Rabi crops. Temperatures across the state may also reduce, which is likely to give relief from the sultry warm weather conditions.
