Lucknow rain

Southwest Monsoon has covered entire Kerala, Tamil Nadu parts of Karnataka and entire Northeast India. In last 24 hours it advanced further and covered the commercial capital Mumbai as well giving 82 mm of rain in the city. The official onset date of Monsoon over Mumbai is June 10.

The Monsoon by now should have covered most parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and parts of Bengal and Bihar.

But, the Monsoon continues to be delayed and a little weak as the cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea has drifted towards Oman coast, pulling the moisture from the region, which will take some time to replenish.

It is to be noted that the initial delay in the onset has no relation with further advancement of Monsoon.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, there are chances of good widespread rain across the country from June 13 due to multiple weather systems. This could be construed as precursor to Monsoon onset over some parts of the country.

The rainfall activity is going to last till June 16 and could possibly be the rainiest spell of the month so far. According to weathermen at Skymet, the Monsoon surge is expected to build up during this time. The westerly winds are likely to gain strength and help in formation of offshore trough along the west coast, which will enhance rainfall activity in the region including the interior parts.

A cyclonic circulation is likely to come up over north Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh around the same period. The circulation will have a trough extending across Maharashtra, Telangana up to Karnataka, which will enhance rainfall activity over these states.

Rain in Bihar and Bengal

The cyclonic circulation in Bihar and West Bengal continues to prevail, while another cyclonic circulation is expected in the Bay of Bengal around June 15. Both the weather systems will act in tandem to push the eastern arm of the Monsoon over Bengal and give rain in the region.

Rain in North India

A Western Disturbance has been prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir due to which the hills are observing light rainfall activity. There’s also a cyclonic circulation over Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan. Both the systems are expected to work together and cause rain, thundershower activity over Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh during this period (June 13 to June 16).

Rain in Northeast India

Monsoon has already reached Northeast India and is giving good rain over the region. The sub-divisions of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya are expected to receive very good rain with isolated heavy in pockets. Assam is already battling floods, which could aggravate further due to this rainfall activity.

The sub-division of NMMT (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura) will, however, receive light to moderate rain.
