Good weather conditions in the hills of North India

September 11, 2015 1:49 PM |

Mussoorie weatherThe weather in the hills of North India is very pleasant at the moment as there isn’t any system affecting the region. Usually Western Disturbances or Monsoon trough cause rain in the region during this period. But the commencement of withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from the northwestern parts of the country is also impacting the hills as it is weakening the weather systems.

In the last 10 ten days, there has hardly been any weather activity in the hills, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. Srinagar during this period has only observed traces of rain. Uttarakhand, which witnesses the maximum weather activity in the Monsoon season followed by Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir is also observing subdued rainfall.

September in itself is a month of reduced weather activity so there are phases when the weather is dry in the hills as well. For instance, Shimla receives 300 mm of rain in the month of August, which drops to 150 mm in September. Similarly, Mukteshwar observes 200 mm of rain in September compared to 300 mm in August.

Meanwhile, the temperatures are maintaining levels. For instance the maximums in view of partly cloudy skies are settling in the lower 20s, while the night temperatures are recording close to 15 degrees Celsius at many places. This is one of the best time to visit the popular hills station of Shimla, Nainital and Mussoorie.

In about 10 days the Southwest Monsoon will start withdrawing from the hills as well, which will make the weather even more pleasant.
