The fresh Western Disturbance and its induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan brought good amounts of rain in the plains of North India over the weekend. The system has now moved away, bringing good weather conditions in the plains.
Rain was accompanied by hailstorm on Sunday, causing extensive damage to standing crops in parts of Punjab, Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh.
In last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Sunday, Chandigarh received 12 mm of rain, Ludhiana 3.7 mm, Patiala 6.8 mm and Jalandhar 3 mm of rain. In Haryana, Ambala received 15.7 mm, Gurgaon 5 mm, Karnal 6 mm and Kurukshetra 6 mm of rain.
Temperatures in plains of North India
As the current WD is moving away, winds have changed directions and are blowing from the northwest direction. Consequently minimums have dropped significantly and are 4-5 degrees below normal average in entire northern plains. Night temperatures in Hisar and Amritsar are 5 degrees below normal at 8.4°C and 5.2°C, respectively. Day temperatures are also below normal
Minimums will now drop marginally or maintain levels and rise after 48 hours. Maximum temperatures, which are also few notches below normal, will rise marginally across the plains of North India.
